Misconception on mercury

There is quite a serious misconception that people have about mercury. There are people who do not know that mercury is natural and not man-made and mercury is actually an element (Hg) in the periodic table in the section of heavy transition metals.

The term for mercury in the past is called quicksilver. It was also rumoured to be one of the sought ingredients for the immortality elixir for the first emperor of China. It is in liquid form at room temperature, a reason which mislead people to have the above misconception that mercury is artificial.

Mercury does have compounds which exist in solid form. Our dental fillings for our tooth cavities is one example.

Mercury is extracted from cinnabar, red mercury(II) sulfide (HgS), or vermilion, the common ore of mercury. (wikipedia.org)

Nobel Prize

What should be the way? What should be important?

Food for thought:

There is the misconception quite a number of people have nowadays where they would agree that the Nobel Prize is important and valuable.

The facts that the Nobel Prize is there to motivate the scientists to discover greater inventions or modifications to aid in Man's progress and that the efforts put in by the scientists and researchers is no less important were forgotten by some.

This is just one incident for us to reassess our thinking.
